This could also be a faulty coolant bottle or low coolant level. The coolant bottle (round thing with pink fluid in it) has a level sensor, which can go bad and trigger the high temp warning. Unfortunately, there is no way to test it because Volkswagen does not publish electrical specifications for its operation. It’s also possible that you got a bad coolant temp sensor. It’s happened to me…

okay I am not quite sure which fault that is but if your red coolant light is flashing at you and your coolant bottle is full, it most likely is the water pump. The water pump propeller is plastic and breaks easily. There is no coolant flow and vehicle begins to overheat. It is possible it could be a thermostat but most likely it is the water pump. Usually with a bad thermostat, the gauge will fluctuate up and down. If it climbs up extremely quick after you start driving it, this is a good indicator that it is the water pump.

if the color is good why do anything i would blow the radiator out from in inside out and keep the reservoir topped off use the money for gas
